We are often contacted with questions about moving an existing website to a new server, designing a new website, or modifying an existing website. Here we have listed some of the most frequently asked questions regarding website design. If you have a question that is not answered here, please feel free to contact us.
The timeframe for a design will vary depending on the requirements of the website. The most common delay in the creation and completion of a new website is waiting for content (text, images, etc.) to be sent to us. If you have a deadline, we will make every effort to meet it.
All our websites are created with search engines in mind. We recommend that your website be re-evaluated frequently as search engines do alter their rules and algorithms. We will discuss this in more details when evaluating your website needs.
This will depend on the amount of information you wish to be displayed on your website and if you want a content management system (CMS; see “How do I update my website?” below for more details). A CMS is a user-friendly way to update your website yourself. If you want to update your site yourself or you have many products/services, then it may be advantageous to have a CMS incorporated into your website design. We will discuss this in detail with you when evaluating your website needs.
No. We will try to design your website so that it appears as similar as possible in various settings, but visitors will see some things differently depending on their browser, screen resolution, and their individual computer settings.
Yes, we do. We can give you a completely new look or just enhance your current design. Please contact us to discuss your needs.
Yes, we would be happy to look at your existing website and give you a quote for updating it.
Am I tied into Jellison Tech for any website maintenance or updates I wish to do once my website is designed?
The short answer is no – once your website is designed it belongs to you and you can commission anyone to update it for you, although our goal is for you to be happy with our services and continue to use us for your website maintenance! However, depending on your contract, you may not have access to the server and/or files. For example, if we are hosting the website for you, you will not have access to the server for security purposes. This also means that if you hire another company to manage your website, that company will not have access either. In the event that you decide to host your website elsewhere, we would send you all the files via email or a download link. Please note that you (or whoever you hire) would have access to the administration sections of the website if you opted for a CMS.
There are many different methods which can be used to update websites. We will advise you which method will suit your needs, but the method and functionality we build into your website is solely up to you.
If you do not wish to update your website yourself, we offer maintenance services by the hour, or you may purchase a maintenance plan to ensure your website stays updated.
If your website design includes a content management system (CMS) then you can access your administration areas from anywhere as long as you have a computer with a browser and internet connection.
If your website was designed without a CMS and you don’t have any HTML skills, we can update the website for you.
Content management systems are generally easy to use and do have explanatory notes included where necessary. We will run through the administration screens with you and show you how to manage your website. We can also update your website for you if you don’t have the time to do this, or just don’t want to. Our rates are very reasonable.
The cost of a website varies depending on the site and complexity. Please contact us to discuss your needs and we will put together an estimate for you.
No. We will discuss your website requirements and then price accordingly. If you change your requirements or add functionality, we may need to add new fees. We will discuss these fees prior to any changes to the original estimate.
We fully support any website we design and are available if you have any problems or require any enhancements. We offer maintenance services by the hour, or you may purchase a maintenance plan to ensure your website stays updated.
Domains & Hosting
Unfortunately, this is not a service that we offer without a yearly prepaid plan. We did offer it in the past, but have stopped due to the increased cost of hosting and domain registration. We will work with your registrar to make sure your domain settings are correct to ensure your website is up and running correctly. If you do want to purchase a yearly plan, your domain and hosting would reside within our company’s servers. While this does make it easier for us to manage, it is in no way required for us to design a website for you. For more information about this change, please read “We’re Making Some Changes.”
The short answer is yes. The long answer is that there may be additional fees for an email service. This depends on what your registrar offers when you purchase a domain.
There are thousands of website designers, each with their own pros and cons. The best way to determine if a designer or company is right for you is to contact them and have a discussion about your website needs.
